:::::MACHINE @ JAPAN EXPO 2008 :::::

This is a report based on my personal experience, being as objective as possible. I hope you enjoy it!

THE LIVE

We were (according to musicjapan+) around 3000 persons. The queue was really crowded, I didn't expect it to be so full! The live was lacking of a proper organization though...
We waited on the queue to enter for 45 minutes. No joke. It started when it was supossed to end... I met in the queue some people I knew from the internet. They are sweet girls, and thanks to one I got a good place in the queue. When at last people started to enter, I had to fight not to fall to the floor - and that was constant in the live... seriously, I got annoyed at the people that only kept on pushing!-. I was just in the center of the stage, in the first row of the people with a regular pass. There were two rows in front of us, the people with preference pass.
Soon, we started to be annoyed again (as if waiting for so long wasn't enough) because they (machine) just wouldn't go on stage. So we started calling "machine, machine!", and eventually they came out.
The stage was big and nice, and there were even two big screens so nobody would miss it. The live started with a cool Kiyoshi with one of his Fernandes guitars (he had one of camouflage in reds and browns/greens, and another one in orange). He was wearing black pants and a long sleeved t-shirt with another one underneath, and his Beatles-like hair (damn I loved the side braids...). Then came on stage Cola (all in black with long hairs... he was there as a shadow in the background), Nao (I couldn't see his face, he was wearing long hair and some weird shirt), Den, with his everlasting black vest with white skulls and bleached hair. People of course, only called "Kiyoshi!" or "Hakuei!" in the live. I was calling out the other members and I got some weird looks... Damn, they deserve love too! Hakuei appeared the last one as usual, with bleached hair in pigtails, a long black fur coat (I wondered how much time could he stand it... just one song haha), some jeans and a mesh black shirt with a white skull.
First fatal thing: none of the micros would work when Kiyoshi was playing guitar. Hakuei went obviously frustrated since we couldn't hear him AT ALL (neither Kiyoshi's chorus). We tried cheering him up with singing the whole time (well at least me), but he just called the staff after every song to try and fix it... without success. Shitty staff to no end.
The setlist was:

  1. In Sphere
  2. Babyblood
  3. Falcon
  4. Game of Death
  5. Atomic God
  6. Reset Human

They got near the stage really often, so much that I could almost touch them... and I got nicely showered by the water Hakuei spittered on us (later, he also did the "I hold the micro with my mouth" thing. He's really funny!). I really expected it, he always does such things. He also went shirtless and they sometimes got close to sing from the same micro. It was only 30 minutes long, 6 songs... of 7 they were supossed to play. According (again) to musicjapan+, they wanted to go out when we called for an encore, but they were stopped by the staff...
I think that Hakuei really got angry and frustrated. He tried hard, but the micro just wouldn't work. In the other hand, I found it fascinating how Kiyoshi looked like to be in trance while playing... and how much of himself Hakuei gives. They all are wonderful. Also, Kiyoshi threw a lot of picks (but none where I was), they were awesome, they were glowing in the dark! And Nao also threw a drumstick but I dunno where it went...

THE PRESS CONFERENCE

So the live finished a bit too soon for everyone. After refreshing myself, I ran to the press conference and then I could take some pictures (some are so funny thanks to Kiyoshi "disappearing" into the background!). They talked about how how much they like France, that Hakuei prefers hot countries whereas Kiyoshi prefers cool ones . They also said that they met when Kiyoshi was a support of Penicillin, and not much more. There weren't many questions. I will upload it all in Interviews when I have the whole thing!

THE BACKSTAGE

Then the moment, MY MOMENT, arrived. I found a japanese woman that was gathering the people of the contest. So I went with her. There were other 4 or 5 girls (they were all speaking French, so I was a bit misplaced). We were lead backstage and that was the most surrealist experience EVER. They were there, in that almost empty room, and I went all nervous. They started calling us, one by one, to have our picture taken with them. So when it was my turn, I took out the drawings and the bracelets I made for them as present. I went straight "this is for you". They were all (machine and staff) fascinated, all went "OOOH". This staff guy talked to me something in French and I told him I can't understand French. He asked me where I'm from and when I said "Spain", more "OOOH" happened hehe. Damn, Hakuei and Kiyoshi were impressed with my drawings!! I then gave them the bracelets and Hakuei gave me his hand to help him fastening it!! That's something I could have NEVER imagined, being in such a personal situation with him. My hands were trembling like mad, so it was impossible to me to do so, then this guy of the staff helped him... In the while, Kiyoshi was fighting with his bracelet and I said "can I help you?", but my hands went again stupid and again this staff member came in my help while I was giggling embarrassed. We took a picture together (they posed with my drawings!) and the other girls had their picture taken too. Then we took a picture all together holding the flyer of the website too. My god. I cannot express what I felt like or anything. It was like a good dream. They shook my hand, and we walked away. I asked Kiyoshi if they'd come to Spain, and he went all thoughtful... now if they came I'd be the happiest person in the world. As if I'm not that now... I have a stupid smile on my face!

THE FIRST SIGNATURE SESSION

Later, I went ot the signature session, but I needed a ticket from a shop. You had to buy over 20? so it was easy because just the newest CD is 25?. I also bought the two photo sets (they are really cute), and a pin thingy with stuff hanging and a black rose.
Stuff you could find there:

  • machine's Beautiful Outsider CD
  • P-nano CD (can't remember the name)
  • Mad Beavers CD (again...)
  • Official machine towel with their faces printed on
  • Little silver purse
  • Silver bag with their logo
  • Photosets (a total of 3, I only got two as they only displayed 2...)
  • Tour t-shirts (one with a design of red lips and the other with a Gibson guitar)

I expected there the towel with the logo and the new DVD, but they weren't there. So I went with my CD and the booklets (like 5 or 6). And they recognized me. Kiyoshi looked at me and he was like "oh it's her!", all pleased. He hit Hakuei's arm and he also looked at me and said "Oh!". I gave Kiyoshi the new album to sign the cover, and when he saw my bunch of booklets he asked me for another one to sign too! I gave him the Superb booklet. Hakuei also signed both things (people were supossed to have just one thing signed), and I told him "thanks for your hard work"... I wonder if he understood me (I think he said "arigato"). I shook their hands again and also gave them two kisses. They smell great, specially Kiyoshi who smells really sweet, and Hakuei's hair is SO DRY I want to cut it off badly, or shave his head (sorry). Ah well he's truly handsome. Both are. I asked if I could take a picture (I saw them with my bracelets still on and that made me happy), and Kiyoshi agreed but this guy of the staff didn't...).
The rest of the day was walking, walking and more walking. I was so tired but SO HAPPY. I can't express it with words. To see them impressed and wearing my bracelets all the time... made me feel really close to them. They are really such warm people.

THE NEXT DAY

Again poor organization. Hakuei appeared in the Laforet Fashion Show... I went there and waited for him to appear, but as Miyavi appeared and started doing a little live, I thought Hakuei wouldn't go out so I left... At the same time, there was the projection of the X Japan video so I missed him totally. I also missed the second signature session as a woman from Laforet told me that machine wouldn't sign that day... I felt a bit sad when I knew that they were there... but what could I do. At least the best was the day before...

I hope they come again to do a proper live without bad surprises. I love them.

PICTURES TO COME SOON.
